One of the new features from the upgrade last week is monitoring of HTTP Live Streaming.

Now you can use your Netrounds probes to act as end-users watching HLS-based OTT (Over-the-top) video content. To set up HLS monitoring, enter the URL for the video content and the probe will parse the manifest file and start downloading the video segments. The streaming algorithm uses adaptive bitrate streaming and will adapt to current network conditions to always play the maximum possible quality (bitrate) while avoiding buffer under-runs. It is available on probes that have an IPTV license.

HLS monitoring complements Netrounds’ existing IPTV capabilities and is a great way of assessing end-user experience of OTT video.
