The active measurement probes in Netrounds are called Genalyzer probes. These probes can generate, receive and analyze network traffic.
All Genalyzer probes use our optimised and modified Linux operating system along with the same set of test tools. The only difference is the number of network interfaces and maximum throughput. This is determined by which hardware you choose - better hardware results in higher performance.
The probes can either be pre-installed at delivery or downloaded as a do-it-yourself-kit:
Pre-installed probes: These are delivered as hardware devices from Absilion or one of our distributors. Once received, you just plug them into your network and control them from the cloud server.
Downloadable probes: These are identical to our pre-installed probes, except that you build them using your own PC hardware, either dedicated or virtual. You will download a complete appliance where we have bundled all required tools and our modified/optimised Linux kernel. A downloadable probe can be permanently installed on a PC's hard disk (G-HDD), or it can be used as a bootable live image on a USB memory for temporary usage (G-USB). It can also be imported as an appliance on a virtual machine (G-VAPP).
